1990s

The 1990s appear as a cultural reference in the book’s closing author biography: Bam Shepherd lists listening to 1990s rap among her interests. The mention identifies a musical preference, but does not establish the period as the setting for the story or date any of its events.

Reference in the Book

In the biography, Shepherd describes creating magical worlds and spending time gardening, canning, and listening to 1990s rap. The decade therefore enters the text through the author’s personal profile rather than the novel’s plot; the evidence gives no further detail about the music or its place in the story.
